Product swaps for a healthier, low-tox life!
When it comes to establishing a healthier, low-tox lifestyle making small, achieve-able adjustments is the best way to start your journey. There is no point in throwing everything out at once and buying new things immediately - this will cause unnecessary stress and won’t be so nice to your bank account! The idea is to add in items bit by bit, in a sustainable way for you and your family.
In this post we have some simple product swaps perfect for someone beginning their low-tox journey, along with where to buy these products.
Sunscreen
We always receive questions about which sunscreen is best to use for children etc. While we always recommend building up tolerance to sun exposure through direct contact with the skin (avoiding midday and when the UV rays are the strongest) we understand that it is important for kids to be able to stay outside as long as they’d like without the concern of sun damage. It is wise to stay away from using conventional sunscreens as these contain a plethora of toxic and unwanted ingredients.

Toothpaste
Toothpaste is another product in everyones homes that conventionally contains hidden nasty’s and unwanted chemicals. You can always make your own toothpaste too if you are feeling creative! Have a read of this 3 ingredient toothpaste recipe here!
Red Seal toothpaste is the best option you will find at your supermarket. Find it here
Deodorant
Most deodorants contain parabens, plastics, and aluminium which is all absorbed through the skin when applied. This small daily habit can lead to a range of health issues and toxicity within the system. The good news is this is becoming widely known information and many companies have toxin free deodorant!

Shampoo
Shampoos often advertise that they are Organic, Paraben and SLES free but if you actually read the ingredients on these products you will soon realise how much marketing is at play here! Instead of falling for these slogans from big brands make sure you read the ingredients on the bottle for yourself - if it isn’t safe to consume don’t put it on your body! Choose either a totally natural shampoo (look for ones without: sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS); cocamidopropyl betaine; cocamide DEA; ammonia laureth (ALS); preservatives; or, fragrance. Alternatively, if you have the time you can make your own shampoo and conditioner - have a read of this blog

Body Wash
Similarly to the shampoo, an often overlooked way to cut down on toxins within the home is to choose a simple, pure soap or body wash. Castile soap is a favourite, it has been around forever and for good reason!
We like Dr. Bronners, you can find it here
Spray Cleaners
Common household cleaners contain endocrine disrupting chemicals, which can cause health issues, exacerbate current health complaints or inhibit your healing journey.
Koala Eco is a fantastic, toxin free, sustainable brand. You can shop this product here
Period Products
Conventional tampons contain toxins such as dioxins as well as bleach which in trace amounts can disrupt hormones and have been linked to cancer and endometriosis. Women don’t need to be worrying about this as well! So, whats the solution? Thankfully these days we have many menstrual care products available to us, and a lot of natural organic options too. If you are wanting to continue using pads and tampons it is important to find a brand with natural and sustainable ingredients. Tsuno (shop here) creates their products using bamboo and leaves out the nasty ingredients. Otherwise, below are some alternatives to tampons that have gained great popularity!
